Out Of Home Care
Specialised Substitute Residential Care (SSRC), formerly known as Voluntary Out of Home Care (VOOHC), operates within New South Wales and is subject to regulation by the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian.
SSRC entails an agreement between a parent and an organization, facilitating the provision of care for a child outside of their regular residence for a minimum of three nights within a seven-day timeframe. This care can serve the purpose of respite, behaviour support, or be funded through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
Various forms of care can be offered by SSRC services, including stays lasting three or more nights in a group home, respite facility, hotel, or even an Airbnb setting (consecutive days are not required). Additionally, overnight or short-term accommodation can be provided in a group home or respite environment. An alternative option involves a child staying with another family for three or more nights through a “host family” arrangement. Furthermore, SSRC encompasses longer-term residential care, camps lasting three or more nights focusing on respite or behaviour support.
SSRC arrangements can be tailored to address emergency situations as one-time solutions or can involve frequent or long-term care. The funding for these arrangements can be obtained through various means, such as direct payment by families, the NSW Bail Assistance Program, or through the NDIS.
